Something happened to my SQL installation on my development machine, and I can't fix it. I can't uninstall, I can't re-install. I even booted safe mode, deleted the SQL directory and tried to install -- that failed too. The best I have been able to manage
is installing the client tools.
I have a regular server but I prefer to do development on a local installation so as not to slow the server down or clutter it with my experiments.
The client tools cannot see my real server. The curious thing is that an Access ADP that I run CAN see the server, and hit its database with no problem.
I'm running winXP with all the service packs.
The message that I get when I try to run EM or QA locally is:
[Microsoft] ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed.
I have no idea what this message means.
Can I forcibly uninstall everything do to with SQL Server and start over? Are there registry settings I have to kill as well? Or is my only choice to back up everything and then reformat and start over? That could take days! I have a LOT of software tools
installed on the development machine.

This error: "[Microsoft] ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLAllocHandle on
SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed.
" seems to indicated a problem with the ODBC components on the machine.
Try installing MDAC 2.7 sp1Refresh on the box.
