Im still having the problem with the Bar Codes not being showed in PDF tho - Any ideas Anyone?|||

Xhomerx,

I have installed barcode font on my machine and I dont know how to see this barcode in reporting service. Can you pl let me know the process?

It is a known defect/drawback in SQL RS. When I worked at my previouscompany we had a similar problem. We had plenty of talks with Microsoft( our company was a premiere customer) still we havent been able to geta proper response from MS. On another note I found a third party toolthat solves this issue. Cant remember the name off the top of my headwill post back if I remember.

Barcode doesn't print from reports server

Hi there,

Ok, so I have a report that is generating product labels on a standard mailing lable sheet (30 of them on a 8.5X11 sheet of stock). The whole process works just fine even the printing of the bar codes when I am printing the lables from VS2005's Preview function. However, when I moved the report to our reports server and run the same report, the barcodes don't print out. I have checked, and the barcode font has been installed on the server.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Eric-

Can you tell me how you got the labels to print correctly.

I can't seem to get mine lined up. I am trying to print Avery 5160 which is also 30 labels.

Thanks

Crystal

|||Crystal, Where are you in the process? Have you gotten the data to print in three columns? Let me know and I will try to dial you in. :-)|||

I do have the data printing in 3 columns but only if I export it to PDF first. The preview only shows one column.

My alignment is off vertically. It starts out fine but after the 3rd row its off. Thanks for any help!

Hi,

I am trying to display the barcode on a webfor for a tracking number, How do I display it.

I am new to asp.net, but i have to get this done.

Thank you,

|||

I have tried using barcode fonts without much success.

However I did find a product which works very well and I highly recommend it.

THe only caveat to using this product is if you upgrade it you need to go back and upgrade all your other reports that use the older version.

the product is neodynamic barcode professional 3.0 for reporting services.|||

is there any method which I can use to convert a dll designed for windows forms, to web forms.

this is a free dll supplied by ID automation.

Backups...daily

Hi,
When using the default backup tool and scheduling them nightly that come
with SQL 2000 Standard Edition are we getting good backups on a daily basis?
Meaning usable data for a restore in the event of disaster, I was told by
an associate that we are getting worthless backups without Backupexe.
Also, I know that we have other solutions by backing up the log files
assuming that the database is not set to "Simple". Suggestions?
Thanks!
Hi,
SQL Server Standard backup is allways safe. So do not worry. If it is a
production database you could set the recovery model to "FULL"
and do a Transaction log backup every 30 minutes. Every night you could do a
Differential or FULL database backup.
Transaction log backup with FULL recovery model will allow you to recover
the database fully in the eve of a crash as well
as you could do a POINT_IN_TIME recovery.

Backups with Maintenance Plans

Hi
I am new to database administration, and I am considering my options
for backups. We are using SQL Server 2005 Standard.
I have done some reading and have determined the right backup scheme
for us is a weekly complete Simple backup with daily Differential
backups.
I would like to set this up with a Maintenance Plan. How do I do this?
- do I set up two Maintenance Plans, one with the weekly backup and
one with the differentials?
- or do I do this with one Plan?
- or is this not possible with Maintenance Plans, in which case I
should just schedule an agent with SQL scripts?
thanks,
TJHi,
You can create a Maintenance Plan for the weekly full backups and another
one for the daily differential backups.
Also, if your databases are smaller than, let us say, 100 or 200 GB perhaps
you can try daily full backups, depending on your backup window.
Hope this helps,

Backups failing

I am running SQL-2000 Standard (SP3) and have created a backup job a while
back to back up several databases, and a seperate job to backup transaction
logs. 2 out of the 3 databases are being backed up and the transaction logs
are backing up, but our largest database (almost 5GB) is failing on the
backup. Where can I look to see why it is failing?
How do you run these jobs, and what types are they of. Maint Wiz? SQL Server Agent jobs, TSQL or
CmdExec? Etc...

They were created using the Maintenance Wizard and scheduled to run nightly.

Maint Wiz? SQL Server Agent jobs, TSQL or
CmdExec? Etc...

They were created using the Maintenance Wizard and scheduled to run nightly.|||You may need to look at both the job history (make sure to view step
details) and the MP history.

messages in there.

Backup Wizard 2005 Standard

I have a new installation of SQL 2005 standard and I cannot create an
automatic backup. When I launch the wizard I get an error " Failed to
retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.Sqlserver.SmoEnum) Invalid column
name 'msx_job_id'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 207). I click okay and I ca
n
then create my backup job, but upon completion I get these 2 error:
Invalid column name 'from_msx'.
Invalid column name 'has_target'.
I have to manually launch the backups each night and that work fine. I
previously was using Sql 2000 and the backup jobs ran without any problems. On Apr 19, 1:40 pm, Todd <T...@.discussions.microsoft.com> wrote:[vbcol=seagreen]

Is this a server you upgraded to 2005 was a target server and prior to
upgrade did the server have master server?|||No this is a new Server not an upgrade. I moved the 2000 db over to this
server.

Backup to network drive using Workgroup/Standard.

I am using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I am planning on upgrading to either Workgroup or Standard edition. While working with Express Edition I did find out that this version does not support backup to a network drive.
My question is:
Is it possible to backup directly to a network drive using a Workgroup/ Standard edition of SQL Server rather than backing up to a local drive and then 'copy and paste' to a network drive like the Express Edition.
My other question is :
Given a database limit of 50GB, which one of the editions, Workgroup or Standard, will be appropriate for use.Thank you for your time and patience.
Regards
Berly Sam

You cannot backup to a network share with any edition of SQL Server.

SQL Server Backup will only used locally attached drives, or NAS/SAN LUNs. You can either backup locally, and then move the file to a network share (both tasks can be automated with SQL Agent -not included with SQL Express), or Check out the several third party backup tools. (Idera, Red-Gate, to name a couple.)

Workgroup-Standard-Enterprise, which is 'best'. It depends upon the functionality that you require. With a database of that size, you are definitely between the Standard and Enterprise Editions (in my opinion). You may wish to check out the functionality differences at this site.

|||Thats not exactly true, you cannot see the backup media in the SQL Server dialog as it only displays local fixed drives, but you can specify a UNC share within the dialog textbox or within the script. Depending on the situation you should rather consider using a local /SAN / NAS backup first and then copy it to a network share if needed.

Jens,

I consider it a gentle ‘challenge’ for me to give more consideration to why I responded as I did. And I appreciate that.

As I contemplate why I thought so, all I can remember is ever since 6.5, I have always taught to backup locally and xcopy to a net share. I can only imagine that was because of the speed issues of what used to be slower networks, as well as the persistence and permissions issues related to mapped drives.

And I now realize that I have not reconsidered or changed that practice in the intervening years.

I’m glad that you challenged me, now I have tested and affirmed that a backup to a UNC works just fine. But I doubt that I will change my practice of Backing up locally and using xcopy to move the backup file to a network resource -the BACKUP won't fail because of any network issues.
